happy birthday alden!

Alden turned three on the 16th of February. He was set on having a "yellow buggy-car party" and had been talking about it for months. We had entertained the idea of having a huge rent-a-venue style party since our house is about big enough for our family and maybe two other small children. But we decided that we just weren't up to the task of planning and executing a huge party and since he is, well... three, we figured he wouldn't mind if we kept this a little more low key. We celebrated with some pizza, some cake, and a few of his friends—we even managed somehow to squish more than two kids in our house. I think Alden had fun.

This was my first attempt at a fondant covered cake. It was really fun to make. Alden thought it was cool, but he asked me why the tires were flat!

I made them... you can download the pattern here http://heatherbailey.typepad.com/heather_bailey/

There is a link on the right hand side for free patterns and this one is called "paper globes".

Patrick and I made about 25 huge ones for the stage at ballard on Easter!
