beautiful january snow

I woke up this morning—well more like the middle of the night—to get Tula a bottle and it looked like there was a light on in the kitchen. I could hardly manage to open my eyes wide enough to look outside (don't ask me how I manage to properly prepare a bottle when I'm half asleep) but when I did pry them far enough open, I saw a beautiful blanket of snow that was reflecting the moonlight into our house.

I was hoping that it would stick around until morning, but around here you never can tell. Thankfully, it was even deeper by the time Alden woke up and ran to the window. We spent a good chunk of the morning bundling up in our make-shift snow suits and playing outside. One of these years I'll actually break down and buy some proper snow pants for the kids. It's hard to justify the expense, though, when we only get one or two snows a winter!

As I pondered the thought of snow pants being a frivolous expense, I pulled our "snowman kit" out of its box. It was a gift, though, so I don't feel bad. Actually, I really love it too! We never have to go hunting for rocks. I suppose that's part of the fun when you're a kid. Maybe when Alden and Tula are a bit older we'll retire the kit and let them create something of their own, but I'll probably still use it to make my own snowman to put in the front yard.

Tula was very patient as I was helping Alden; she spent most of the time sucking on her bunny ears.

sweet baby Tula

Tula is growing so fast. She's eating cereal and apples now—oh, and sometimes prunes (sorry little bum). She spends most of the day smiling, napping, eating, and laughing at Alden.

this is GOOD!

We finally started (seriously) potty training last week. First thing monday morning, I rolled up all of the area rugs in the house, stripped off Alden's diaper, and had him run around in nothing but shorts from the waist down. I knew he would have an accident the first time, so I was just waiting. The dishes were piling up, so I started washing them (by hand... we don't have a dishwasher) and Alden wanted to stand on the stool next to me and watch. "Mommy," he said, "don't get that water on me!" HA!! I looked down and he was standing in a puddle of what he thought was dishwater. He was horrified to find out it was pee. And that's all it really took. He's since been doing a great job telling us when he needs to go and holding it until we get there. Hopefully this is it.

the Unnouncement

Well, it's fairly apparent to me that I'm never actually going to get these printed and in the mail. It is an improvement over Alden's since I never even designed one when he was born. Maybe if we have more children I'll go one step further and stuff them into envelopes—no guarantee that they'll make it into the mail though!

Isn't she precious! She was four weeks in this photo—it's amazing how fast time flies by.
